Media Release: Fionna Reid named on State Government panel

Updated: Aug 23, 2022

Media release date: 12 June 2018

The Queensland Government announced today that Fionna Reid is one of four eminent professionals named on the newly formed Building Industry Fairness (BIF) Reforms Implementation and Evaluation Panel.

The panel, an initiative of Minister for Housing and Public Works, Mick de Brenni, is tasked with ensuring BIF reforms are effectively implemented and evaluated.

“The panel will work with government and with the building industry to assess the implementation of the BIF legislation,” said Minister de Brenni.

In February, the Minister called on the subcontracting, trades and building industry to nominate “four eminent professionals to resource an independent implementation and evaluation panel”.

Redlands based building and construction solicitor Fionna Reid, Director of Aitchison Reid, is one of four industry expert panellists, joined by Ms Bronwyn Weir, Ms Jennifer Robertson and Mr Troy Lewis.

A construction lawyer since 2002, Ms Reid owns Aitchison Reid, a firm which provides legal support to subcontractors and tradespeople. Ms Reid has worked in all aspects of construction law, including domestic and international arbitration, adjudications, court proceedings, contract drafting and reviews.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be able to contribute to this panel and wish to thank the Subcontractors’ Alliance for my nomination,” said Ms Reid.

“In my experience as a building and construction lawyer I have witnessed many tragedies that have affected small businesses, communities and families. Being named on this panel means I have the opportunity to be a part of positive change in the construction industry.”

Minister de Brenni said, “These are the strongest protections for subcontractors in the country.”
